Tuesday update funstuff

Couldn't sleep last night. Ended up oversleeping, and woke up right at the time I needed to leave for the vet. Threw on some clothes, did the hair and teeth thing, grabbed the cat, and rushed out the door, still half-asleep.

Cat update: Cheese is still sick. He still has crystals in his urine. Fewer than before, but it's been a month now, and there shouldn't be any at all. So he's improving, but not rapidly enough to prevent another blockage from occurring. In fact, they said he'd already become partially blocked, which they removed. Interesting to note, I thought Cheese looked sort of "wrong"... nothing definable, just something about the expressions on his furry face. Now I know why, and I know what to look for. Anyway. Dr. Pletz said that the problem is that Cheese has "a problem with his bladder that can't be fixed." It's not anything I've done or failed to do, it's just the way he was born. Apparently, it's fairly common. However, even though we can't fix it, we can still treat it. The treatment? Prescription cat food, low in the minerals that cause the crystals. Prescription cat food that he will have to eat for the rest of his life. Prescription cat food that costs $22 for a 10-pound bag. And a dollar per can for the wet food. Gah. Far cry from Special Kitty, that's for sure. But if that's what he needs, then that's what he'll have. Naturally, this means the other two are eating it too. And after I'd just bought a BIG bag of Special Kitty. Gave that to Michael. Also going to purchase one of those "water fountain" water dishes for them. The vet said it's a good idea, since it will help to encourage him to drink as much water as possible. Must also restock the Dixie cups, since he won't drink out of a normal dish.
On a side note, he is the best-behaved cat when I take him in. Cooperative and affectionate. Maybe I should make my apartment look like a vet's examining room. ;)

After that, picked up my check, dropped off the cat, picked up Michael, and headed off for shopping stuff. Went to Dollar General first, to get a plastic storage bin for the cat food (no way am I going to repeatedly lift a bag that's nearly half my size every time I feed them). Got it for three bucks, and picked up a few other small things (like clear purple plastic salt & pepper shakers and pink Fun Foam soap, woo! ). Then headed to Target to get cat litter since it's cheaper and there's more variety than Wal-Mart. Though, they were out of my favorite brand. Such is life. While there, also picked up a bright red patent leather Hello Kitty cell phone case, and a gift for Dave, which I won't talk about, since last time I mentioned a gift thinking I was safe, because he was on his way, he ended up reading about it anyway. But I think he'll like it. Then we went to Denny's, and then we came home.

My life is so exciting, sometimes.

Though, in truly happy news, Dave will be here tomorrow! YAY! Over two months of snuggling and fluffing to catch up on!

I am a happy kitty. Even though I can't eat my Girl Scout cookies that are sitting here teasing me, because he's never had any, and I have to save them for him to try.

Mew.

I have a desk full of GS cookies. *turns green* I bought them before I was pregnant.

Poor Cheesey boy! Kitties are harder to tend than children because they can't voice what's wrong.

True, true. But it's just odd... there was nothing especially wrong about his appearance, and he wasn't acting any differently than normal, but I could just tell that something wasn't right. Hee, maybe I really should go into animal behaviour. ;)

Even now, I he looks a little "off" (again, nothing specific, just not right), but I suspect that's more from being poked and prodded yesterday than anything else.

Ooh, reminds me, I need to call the vet. The cats refuse to eat the canned prescription food.

Re:
Yeah, I know that feeling. I have two cats that do the same thing. I once sat in the bathroom with my smart kitty for two hours because she acted off. Nothing I could put my finger on. Ended up finding that she had gotten his by a car and her hip was a bit hurt. Vet fixed her right up for us.
